AJE's 'Listening Post': How did the 9/11 attacks impact the media?

currenteye:

When the two hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Centre that day, the impact was registered by those who perished that day – and the countless others who have perished in the wars fought ever since.

But the force of the impact was also felt on the media landscape itself and its complicity in the construction of the global war on terror that rearranged and justified the political events in the ten years that have passed.

In a series of interviews with journalists and media commentators, we look back at a decade of lies, misrepresentation, manipulation, flawed or fake intelligence, and how many in the western media bought into that narrative and colluded in its construction.

Program is approximately 26 minutes long.

These people fucked me over… The board was so spooked by being cast as the worst board in the country. Now they’re trying to show that they’re not the doofuses that they are.

BREAKING NEWS
Turkey is to expel the Israeli ambassador after details emerged of a UN report into last year’s deadly raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla.
Ahmet Davutoglu, the Turkish foreign minister, announced the measures on Friday hours before Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general, was expected to formally receive the report.

“Israel, in fact, has misused many of the chances that were given to them and the Israeli government, on the other hand, see themselves [as being] above international laws and human conscience,” Davutoglu said.

Turkey has demanded an apology from Israel for the raid, but Binyamin Netanyahu’s government has refused several times to make such a gesture. (Read More| 1,2)

Among the possessions found by Libyan rebels inside Muammar Qaddafi’s compound in Tripoli was a photo album, filled with photos of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.  Or, as Qaddafi called her, “Leezza, Leezza, Leezza.”  Yes, really.  Via MSNBC.com:

The former U.S. Secretary of State paid a visit to Tripoli in 2008 during a brief interlude that saw Gadhafi begin to be welcomed back into the international fold. As Jason Ukman of the Washington Post wrote on Wednesday, ”it was only three short years ago that Rice shared a late-night dinner with Gaddafi to break the Ramadan fast, three short years ago that the United States and Libya were celebrating what was to be a new chapter in their relations.”
In a 2007 interview with al-Jazeera television, Gadhafi spoke of Rice in glowing terms. “I support my darling black African woman,” he said. “I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders … Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. … I love her very much. I admire her and I’m proud of her because she’s a black woman of African origin.”
